Inspired by King Alfonso XIII’s desire to build a luxury hotel to rival the Ritz in Paris, the Hotel Ritz in Madrid shares with those in Paris and London a reputation as one of the original grand luxury hotels in Europe. Designed and built by the legendary Cesar Ritz, it first opened it’s doors in 1910.
The hotel has grand appeal with each room individually decorated and adorned with antique furnishings and hand-woven Spanish rugs. The beds are covered with embroidered linens, the bathrooms lined with marble and the floors fitted with carpets by the Real Fabrica de Tapices. On the mezzanine floor, a fitness and beauty centre is open to the clients of the Ritz whilst refined Spanish cuisine is offered at the Goya Restaurant.
The location of the Ritz is perfect, The Prado, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Renia Sofia Modern Arts centre, all situated next door. The Zarzuela Theatre, the Buen Retiro Park and the Botanical Gardens are within walking distance.
